Exploring Oxygen Therapy as a Treatment for COPD

The commonly co-existing diseases of chronic bronchitis and emphysema are typically referred to as COPD. COPD is a degenerative disease that causes the lungs to gradually narrow, thus effectively depleting a person's oxygen supply. While there is not yet an approved cure for copd, there are many effective treatments available to those suffering from COPD. Oxygen therapy is an effective treatment for COPD. Researchers once believed that oxygen might provide a cure for those suffering from COPD. While it was determined that oxygen therapy is not a cure, it is still used as a valuable treatment for COPD. It has been proven that patients undergoing continuous oxygen therapy as a treatment for COPD experienced a longer life expectancy than patients who underwent 12 hours of oxygen therapy at nighttime. While oxygen therapy is one option, there are many treatments that help provide patients with an improved quality of life.
