Before you rush off and post your blog on any directory for more exposure, take the time ot learn about who you might associate yourself with. Look to see if the submit blog directory is easy to use. If you use a submit blog directory that is hard to sort through then you potential readership probably will not want to sort through it, meaning that your potential readership is no longer looking for you. Get to know your potential neighbor blogs. Are they updating regularly with high quality content? The only thing worse then no exposure is bad exposure and you do not want your hard work being associated with less then good writing and being disregarded by potential readers.
